Weeds can be a big problem. That is why so many farmers welcomed new crop varieties that are unaffected by the herbicide glyphosate. That is because they could spray glyphosate after the crop emerges and kill the weeds. That is no longer true in areas where weeds have evolved their own resistance to glyphosate. Those areas now constitute more than 61 million acres.
