Many times over the years Society members have presented some of the best programs at our luncheons. The June 2019 meeting was no exception to this as our new member, Emory Dabney, presented an engaging program focused on the food business in Philadelphia and his own business, Toro imports. His presentation provided unique insights into the workings of an import business specializing in unique tropical fruits from small Caribbean islands. Mr. Dabney has established a network of small farmer cooperatives who grow, pack and ship, with his help, unusual fruits that are in demand by ethnic populations in the United States. It’s always fascinating to better understand our own members’ connections to agriculture and the food system, making our June meeting especially rewarding. Mr. Dabney was recently elected as third vice president for our Society and we look forward to his contribution in the coming years. Learn more about his business here: Toro Imports
In addition, at the June meeting, we were treated to attendance by a contingent of some of our oldest and most stalwart members who came in to Philadelphia from Bucks County.
