DuPont, Monsanto Settle Suit, Strike $1B Deal Over Genetically Modified Seeds

The long-simmering lawsuit between Monsanto and DuPont over rights to technology for genetically modified seeds ended in a deal that tosses out the $1 billion jury verdict DuPont was ordered to pay Monsanto last year. Instead, both companies agreed DuPont will make at least $1.75 billion in royalties payments over the next several years in exchange for access to developing products using Monsanto’s industry-leading technology. The licensing deal is a win for farmers as they will, in the future, have a broader choice of genetically modified products from which to choose.
