Walter B. Wurster was born and raised in Philadelphia and graduated from the John Bartram High School. He received his B.S. degree in Dairy Science from Pennsylvania State University in 1956. Following graduation Mr. Wurster was employed by Ardrossan Farms at Wayne, Pennsylvania for a year before becoming owner and operator of the 132 acre Holly Hill Farm at Ottsville, Pennsylvania. He operated Holly Hill Farm for 30 years and developed a herd of 120 registered Holstein cattle and farmed 300 acres of land. Holly Hill Farm was committed to Pennsylvania’s Agricultural Preservation Program in 1996 and subsequently sold to another dairy farmer. Mr. Wurster served as an Agricultural Extension Agent in Chester County, Pennsylvania for seven and one-half years where he was involved with dairy, 4-H club, water quality and farmland taxation programs. He was named Master Farmer in 1984, served for 16 years on the Pennridge School Board, was a member of the Pennsylvania Holstein Association and the Pennsylvania Farmers Association. Mr. Wurster has been a member of the Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture since 1996.
