Society Finds Out… Where’s the Beef!

The field trip to JBS beef processing facilities Souderton PA was a big success. Members received a great intro to the whole process of processing beef carcasses into store-ready beef products, and then went through the plant to see those in action. With hundreds of workers killing, skinning and processing some 1,800 carcasses a day, the overal impression was one of speed and efficiency. From the unloading of cattle to then see the specialized machinery making fresh hamburger patties for Wendy’s, the whole process was extremely sanitary – and cold! Looking “behind the scenes” gives one an appreciation for the complexity of the U.S. food system – delivering quality products at low prices – the envy of the world!

These kinds of field trips are some of the High points of the Society’s annual programs. To stay current on all aspects of the Society’s programs, remember to pay your annual dues – coming due soon – watch for your notice. And why not invite a guest to an upcoming meeting or trip – you will be doing a friend a favor!
