Ann Dorsett has been an outspoken advocate for New Jersey’s agricultural community for many years. Specifically, concerning equine issues where her leadership has proven to be an effective tool for improving the industry. She became the latest member of PSPA at the May 2, 2024 meeting.

She and husband Larry own and operate Dorsett Farms in Woolwich, Twp., Gloucester County. Their seventy-acre horse farm specializes in amateur shows, Arabian breeding stock as well as a horse-boarding operation. Also, Dorsett Farms has been instrumental in providing tours for equine activities.  

Ann was born and raised on a 160-acre small crops farm in Eastern Kansas where her family raised beef and dairy cattle. She says, it was an “equal opportunity farm” where they all had to share in everything from cultivating the crops — to milking cows. Ann stepped out to acquire her BA and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas and later went on to excel as a social worker. She became the chair of one of Kansas’ county mental health associations, which later propelled her to the position of Director of social work at the Medical University of South Carolina and eventually President of that state’s social work association.

But, with farming in her blood and an affinity for horses, Ann Dorsett’s name has become synonymous with the Equine Industry in New Jersey. She has set the tone for the Gloucester County Board of Agriculture as President and Chair of the Equine Committee. Ann has been an active member of many agricultural organizations including the New Jersey Farm Bureau representative on the Equine Advisory Board, Mid-Atlantic Arabian Horse Association and the New Jersey Animal Alliance.
