The United Nations says the decline in honey bee populations, first seen in the U.S. and Europe is now being seen in China, Japan and Africa. Leading bee experts working on behalf of the U.N. warn that numerous factors may now be coming together to put stress on bee colonies around the world. These factors range from declines in flowering plants and the use of damaging insecticides, to the worldwide spread of pests and air pollution. They are calling for incentives to be offered to landowners to restore habitats friendly to pollinators such as bees.
