The Huntington Botanical Garden, San Marino, California, is a premier American botanical garden that includes more than a dozen thematic gardens covering 130 acres of the 207-acre grounds. Dr. Jim Folsom, Director Emeritus of The Huntington Botanical Garden, designed and raised the funds for the largest Chinese Garden in the world outside of China. He will talk about the history and commodification of the avocado including some history of the Huntington. The avocado disease and conservation challenges, and the Huntington research and collaboration to address longevity of this crop and its cultivar biodiversity will also be discussed. Union
