The Huntington Botanical Garden, San Marino, California, is a premier American botanical garden that includes more than a dozen thematic gardens covering 130 acres of the 207-acre grounds. Dr. Jim Folsom, Director Emeritus of The Huntington Botanical Garden, designed and raised the funds for this largest Chinese Garden in the world outside of China. He will talk about the history and commodification of the avocado including some history of the Huntington. Further, Folsom will address the avocado disease, conservation challenges, the Huntington research, collaboration to address longevity of this crop, as well as its biodiversity.

  • Thursday, June 6, 2024 with meet and greet at 11:30 am.; luncheon at noon; and program at 1:00 pm.
