Purpose: This annual award is designed to recognize outstanding students majoring in Horticulture with the clear intent upon graduation from their undergraduate university (or after attending graduate school) of pursuing a career in one the many branches of horticulture including landscape architecture and environmental sciences.
It honor the memory of Dr. Fred Winter who owned a farm in the Pottstown area and was an active member of PSPA for many years. Dr. Winter had over two hundred rhododendron plants on his farm including several varieties he bred and developed himself.
Eligibility: This award shall be presented to a full-time student in horticulture in their Junior or Senior year, in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Students must be interested in employment in the horticulture industry or in furthering their education in horticulture. Students who reside or attend school in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, or Maryland are eligible. Past winners of the scholarship are not eligible.
Requirement: As part of the application process, a one-page essay must be submitted that focuses on how you envision impacting the industry through your employment or graduate work in horticulture.

Selection Process: Final award selection of each recipient will be the responsibility of the Scholarship Committee of the PSPA who expect to select the winners by the end of 2025.
Amount of Award: The award will be in the amount of $3,000 for each of the two winners and paid directly to the two selected individuals in early 2026.
