From time to time our Society recognizes someone who has made major contributions to agriculture by awarding the Society’s gold medal. Such was the case at our February meeting when our president, John Urbanchuk, presented the Society’s gold medal to Dr. MeeCee Baker for a lifetime of commitment to agriculture and her pioneering career as a woman in ag leadership. Dr. Baker, as she is wont to do, recognized those who have mentored and assisted her during her career. Everyone in attendance readily acknowledged that MeeCee is eminently deserving of the Society’s honor. Others rose to acknowledge her leadership and career in agriculture, including Dr. James Diamond, a former advisor, who offered stirring words concerning Dr. Baker’s lifetime achievements.
