Society Welcomed Dr. Maria Gallo to September Meeting

Society Welcomed Dr. Maria Gallo to September Meeting

Dr. Maria Gallo inspired the September 2017 meeting of the Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture with a lively and challenging presentation. Dr. Gallo focused on her extensive experiences in research and leadership in agriculture, academics and extension. She highlighted data showing the increased need for technology training at all levels of agriculture and the declining number of graduates to fill this need. She concluded her presentation with an announcement of her intention to bring a high level farmer training program to Pennsylvania and the region. This new initiative at Delaware Valley University will be modeled after her successful experiences with a similar program in Hawaii. Members attending the September meeting would all agree that Dr. Maria Gallo, a member of the Society, will provide dynamic leadership for Delaware Valley University far into the future.

New Members.

The Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture recognized three new members at our September meeting with the presentation of their credentials by our president, John Urbanchuk. The three included Dr. Maria Gallo, Dr. Scott Sheely, and  Wendy Calhoun. In all three cases John Urbanchuk expressed the feelings of the entire society in welcoming our new members and urging them to participate on a regular basis. In future editions of the newsletter we will learn more about each of our new members. The next time you attend a meeting of the Society please take a moment to personally welcome our new members and make them feel at home in America’s oldest agricultural society.

Presentation of the Society’s President’s Portfolio to our past president, Dr. Kevin Hicks.
As has been our custom in recent years our president, John Urbanchuk, presented the Society’s exclusive, engraved leather portfolio to our immediate past president, Dr. Kevin Hicks. John commented on the outstanding leadership which Dr. Hicks had provided during last year’s programs and his considerable contributions to the work of the society on many levels. The leather portfolio is engraved with the logo of the Society and personalized with the name and tenure of the past president. The portfolio is intended to be a recurring reminder to past presidents of the appreciation of the entire Society for dedication to the Society.
