Kevin Hicks Honored by American Chemical Society

PSPA Member to Be Honored 

Kevin Hicks, an Emeritus Research Leader of the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, has been named to the 2014 American Chemical Society (ACS) Class of Fellows.

ACS is the world’s largest scientific society. Conferred annually since 2008, ACS Fellows are nominated by their peers for their outstanding accomplishments in scientific research, education and public service.

Only 750 of the society’s more than 161,000 members from academia, industry, government labs and small business have been distinguished with this honor. This year’s 99 ACS Fellows will be recognized during the ACS National Meeting in San Francisco on Aug. 11, 2014. Hicks will be recognized “for leading successful collaborative R&D activities with corporate, academic, and government partners, resulting in the commercial production of functional foods, feeds, biochemicals and biofuels from renewable (non-fossil) agricultural feedstocks.” Hicks spent 35 years with the Agricultural Research Service in Wyndmoor, PA, where he conducted and led research resulting in over 170 peer-reviewed publications, 16 patents, and approximately 70 other technical publications. He has won 13 major awards for his work, including a 2013 Award of Research Excellence from the Biofuels Industry.

Dr. Hicks was elected a member of the Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture in 2010 and will serve as its 1st Vice President during the 2014/2015 program year. The Society is the oldest agricultural organization in the US, being founded in 1785 in Philadelphia PA. It promotes agricultural research, education, and best practices in production, transportation, and marketing.
